The influence of technology cuts across every sphere of human endeavors. In medicine, for instance, the equipment used for various purposes are a result of technology. There are several types of equipment for the assessment of parameters and general body checkup. In fact, the manipulations that are done in recent times are non-invasive.
This means that when you go to the clinic, they really don’t have to pierce your skin or take other painful samples. It is called the non-invasive technique of clinical investigation. One there major way if diagnosis and thecurative procedure is the radiotherapy. This uses irradiation of various kinds to perform the function. For diagnosis of various disorders and for monitoring of progress of some particular treatments, the X-ray is used in the hospitals.
Normally, when the rays are released, they would just travel at a particular speed, in multiple directions. So there is now a need to get a device that will concentrate them at the particular spot where they are needed. Thus the need for the linearizer (lineariseur).
Not just this, some irradiations will cause damage to the normal tissues that they come in contact with. So they needed to be directed away from such sites. This device is also used for that purpose. The contemporary device will normally produce a 6MeV photon that is in a low energy range machinery. Or, it produces a dual/triple photon along with diverse electron energies.
There are different types of delivery methods for this device. They are:
• Step and shoot
In this case, a series of different shape fields are delivered. They build up an intensity pattern that is not the same. Between each of the fields, the irradiation can be stopped.
• Arc therapy
The radiation will run continuously and there is a continuous movement of the MLC leaves. This time, it is delivered in an arc, or maybe two.
The waveguide (guide d’onde) can also be used in radiation therapy.
